Only 3 quarters left

Another quarter has ended at school and now I am on a week long break until new classes start up. This quarter was hard. It was only 10 weeks long instead of 12. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it makes a huge difference.

Just for a little refresher and for those of you who don't know, I took 3 classes. Surgery, Anesthesia, and Comparative Hematology. Finals went really well for me and I ended all 3 classes with a final grades of B's.

On October 4th my new quarter starts up. I will be at school Monday through Thursday and will be taking 4 classes this round (13 credits). The classes will be Equine, Production Animals, Advanced Clinical Skills, and Pocket Pets. I'm super excited for Equine and Production as those are the areas I'm most interested in working when finished with school.

I also got my books all ordered for these classes and they arrived today. I looked through them a little bit tonight and they so far are super interesting. Maybe this just makes me odd, but I am really excited and ready for these classes to start, I wish I didn't have to wait until the 4th.

That is all for this post! Just had to gush about school a bit :)

Happy Anniversary!

I know the picture is kind of blurry but they wouldn't stay still for a picture!

This weekend was another busy one. Friday my friend Becca came over and hung out for the afternoon. She brought her dog Chewie over to play with my dogs. It was a lot of fun to hang out with a friend outside of school! Allis also really dislikes her tail, so when you remind her that it's there, she goes nuts.....I of course had to show Becca this. I can't get the video to work, so I'll see what I can do about that and post it later.

Saturday September 11th was the year anniversary of Tony and I being together. It feels good to be with someone who loves me, and likes to be around me and is nice to me! We celebrated by going out to breakfast at IHOP, then spent the afternoon at a park hiking around and hanging out at a lake there, then we went out to dinner at Olive Garden. We finished off the night by coming home, having a few beers, and watching King Kong.

Today (Sunday) we are just relaxing. I'm looking over school stuff because in a week I have finals, and want to make sure I know my stuff, and Tony is hanging out with a friend for a while.

Not the most exciting weekend, but not boring either!

Labor Day Weekend

This weekend although a long holiday weekend, went by very fast. Friday I met Dad and Rachel at their house around 11:30 because they were nice enough to take me to the fair with them. I love the fair and due to not being able to find a job, was going to have to skip it this year. They treated me to it though and I was able to eat all kinds of yummy fair food and see all the attractions. I even convinced Dad to take a picture with me...he doesn't like being in pictures. I love going through all the animal barns. The cows are my favorite. They are just so freaking cute, I could totally spend all day with them. We also went on the ride Ye Old Mill....which is 97 years old this year. I had never been on it, and it was funny to go though. You sit in this little wooden boat that looks like it could sink any second, and float through a dark cement tunnel, where you will randomly come upon some scenes to look at. It's like Dayton's 8th flood (yes I know that's not what it's called anymore but I don't care) scenes only not even close to as exciting. ha ha

Cutest thing EVER! I just want to cuddle up with it and take a nap

Then the not so good part of the weekend. Dad told me that Grandma has breast cancer again. This is the second time she's had it. The doctor though says it's a stage 0 out of 5 (o being the best and 5 being the worst) so that part is good at least. She is going in on Wednesday this week to have it removed, but is only being sedated because the last time she was put under anesthesia she had a really hard time coming out of it, stopped breathing and ended up in the ICU with a tube down her throat to help her breath. We don't want that to happen again, so I am hoping that everything goes good for her.

Saturday morning Tony and I met up with one of his coworkers and her husband down in Cannon Falls and went on a 20 mile bike ride on the Cannon Valley Trail. It was the perfect day for it because it was nice and cool out. Then that evening Tony and I headed to his parents house to have dinner with them. We had chicken, potatoes, and salad and it was really yummy!

Sunday we didn't do anything. Just laying around the house being lazy and relaxing was enough for us that day.

Monday I decided that since I've tried the mountain biking thing a few times, I'm not really into it, so Tony and I headed to Eriks bike shop and traded in my bike for just a plain old road bike. I get to pick it up today because we spent a lot of time there yesterday and the bike wasn't quite ready at closing time.

Anyways that's my weekend in a nut shell and now I'm off to finish the homework that I slacked on....at least I've got a little more than half of it done already! Hope you had a good Labor Day Weekend also!

Important lesson learned

ok so maybe this isn't so interesting, but this quarter two of the classes I'm taking are Surgery and Anesthesia! They are fun, interesting and I'm really enjoying them....even if they are hard classes.

Anyways....every morning I start my day off with taking the dogs outside, and then I eat breakfast....well this Wednesday I was in a hurry and decided that I would be fine with out it. Boy oh boy was I wrong about that.

We had 3 surgeries to do in class Wednesday morning, and I was scrub nurse for the second one. I scrubbed in like normal, and was doing my assisting thing, and everything was going fine. Then it hit me like a train....I suddenly got really hot and uncomfortable. I asked Krista to loosen my face mask. (I couldn't touch it since it wasn't sterile) That didn't help and I got really sweaty....like I could feel the sweat rolling down my back. Not that you really want to know those details, but it gives you a better idea of how I was feeling. Then it seemed like the lights were WAY too bright so I told Stacie (my teacher and DVM) that I needed to sit down....well that didn't help because every time I looked up to still try and assist her with the surgery it just seemed like the lights were glaring off the instruments. Then everything started going dark so I told her that I couldn't help her anymore. Since there was no way I was going to be able to get up and walk at that point, Krista, and the other people pushed me and the stool I was sitting on, into the corner. After a little bit I felt alright and was able to walk out of the surgery suit and get some food and water.

I would like to also add, that this is not the first week of surgery or the first surgery I've seen. This is week 7 our of 10. Watching the surgery and assisting wasn't the problem. The lack of food in my stomach was the problem.

So basically I have learned that I need to keep doing what I had been doing every morning before class, and get up early enough to EAT BREAKFAST! Having to stop assisting in the middle of a surgery was somewhat embarrassing and I don't want it to happen again. That was my not so exciting excitement for Wednesday!

It's been a while

It's been a few weeks since I've written on here and since then, lots of fun, crazy, busy stuff has gone one. Everything in the new apartment is settled, the dogs are used to it, and I think are happy.

August 1st, Dad turned 50, so I drove out to to Dad and Rachel's cabin in Annandale to help them celebrate.

August 8th, after moving, I had to return Dad's truck to him, so he and Rachel met me, Tony and his parents at old country buffet in Burnsville and we all had a very nice time eating and chatting.

August 19th and 20th were hang out with Mom days. Thursday she came over to check out the new place, and we went out to lunch and ran some errands, then on Friday, Mom and I went to go see the moving Eat, Pray, Love. I was somewhat disappointed by it. I just was really slow and seemed to last forever. It's a movie that I really don't have the desire to see again, or every own.

The last week and a half was really busy. In addition to school, I also had a job interview, Dad and Rachel came over to check out the new place, and my friend Katie also came over. I hadn't seen Katie is a really long time, I think it had been almost a year, so it was really nice to catch up with her.

I can't believe that there is only 3 weeks of the quarter at school left! This summer flew by, but that's alright with me because I'm just that much closer to graduation. I will officially be done with school at the end of June, 2011, then I take the big exam that determines if you're certified or not, and then it's off into the real world and working in a clinic somewhere. My last quarter of school will be an externship, and right now I'm thinking that I would really like to go to the University of Minnesota to do that(They have a huge vet clinic there) or I would like to do it at an emergency clinic.

This past weekend, August 28, and 29 was a tractor show called Pioneer Power. This year, Tony's dad was displaying a tractor of his. On Saturday Tony and I drove it in the parade, and then on Sunday Tony and his dad drove it in the parade. I got some good pictures of them in the parade, and of them loading it back on on the trailer.

Arvin (Tony's dad) and Tony on the Oliver

Loading up the Oliver to take it home

What a good looking father, son pair!

And lastly, today I had a second interview at a job that would be a lot of fun.....well kind of fun anyways. It's at a dog boarding facility, and it would basically be cleaning kennels, taking dogs outside, feeding them, giving them medications when needed. They also have a doggy daycare, and they are hiring too for a casual person to fill in on vacations. I talked to that manager too, so if I get this job I would get to work in both areas. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get the job!

Until next time, enjoy the few pics I have here, and the rest will be on my facebook!

All moved in!

Man am I glad that moving is all done....at least for 13 months it is! Tony and I have been in our new apartment for a week and so far pretty much everything has gone fine. We moved in on the 7th, and had lots of help. Tony's parents, uncle, and my BFF Krista were here to help us.

The previous week Tony and I had stayed with his parents in Belle Plaine for a week because the landlord had to get our place painted at ready. This was fine with us, but then the day came to move in and there were still several issues that needed to be taken care of by the landlord. The washer was filled with dark gray water and none of the cycles worked, the screen to the bedroom window isn't attached and it's bent, the nails on the deck need to be pounded down or else one of us will be losing a toe nail at some point, the closet in the bedroom comes out of its track all the time, the bathroom door needs to be fixed because the only way it will latch is if you lift it up, and our keys were so bent that it was a battle to get them back out of the lock on the main doors.

Luckily these things are now all fixed and we are now happy. Aside from still having some boxes to go through we and the pugs are all settled in!

Other than that, midterms are next week at school. I can't believe that we are already half way through the quarter, and on Monday we get to sign up for our next set of classes. I love school, but will be happy when it's done.

crazy stressful week

This past week was incredibly stressful.

Two major things were going on. One was the normal going to class, and trying to get homework accomplished and learn something, but this quarter is only 10 weeks instead of the usual 12 weeks so more information is thrown at you each week. That in itself is stressful.

The second thing though is that Saturday Tony and I had to be out of our Northfield apartment by noon. Since I currently don't have a job, I spent the week packing up the apartment, and on Friday Tony came home at noon. We loaded up his dads truck, and my dads truck and headed to Belle Plaine. Tony's parents followed us back to Northfield and helped up load up the trucks again. One of Tony's coworkers was also with us helping. We ended up doing 2 loads with the truck I had, and 3 with the truck Tony had. The sucky thing is that we didn't get finished until 5:30a.m. It was alright though because that ment we didn't have to go back to Northfield....we are officially moved out and homeless for a week. On Saturday the 7th we get to move again, but this time to our new apartment in Burnsville.

I am so excited to be back in Burnsville, and closer to family, and school. Now I just hope I don't relalize that I need something that I packed up lol
